Paul Lucas - Head of Aerodynamics

The passion for aerodynamics began during university while participating in FSAE, and it only deepened after earning an engineering degree from Purdue University. At PWR North America, hands-on experience with the thermal and aerodynamic interactions around vehicle heat exchangers and radiators further honed his expertise. This was followed by a role at AMS Performance, where he focused on internal aerodynamics and design strategies to maximize horsepower. Rising to the position of Engineering Manager, he led the department before co-founding Verus Engineering. At Verus, he was instrumental in developing all the aerodynamic components, including wings, splitters, and diffusers. He played the pivotal role in developing some of the fastest time attack and hill climb cars in the country, with several notable vehicles under his belt:

Hoonigan Hoonapigasus - BBi Lucy [1st place in class and beating record time by over 14 seconds at Pikes Peak 2019] - Feras Qartoumy C6 Corvette [Many track records across USA, 1st place in Pro-Am WTAC 2023] - DuSold 1968 Camaro - Jackie Ding TA Supra - Karel S Motorsports BMW - Robin Jonasson Porsche [Lap record at Rudskogen in Norway & Mantorp Park in Sweden]

Jackie Ding - Director of Motorsports

Jackie has always dreamt about racing cars since his first exposure to F1 in the early 2000s. He honed his skills in rental go karts at Summit Point at the start of his career, then moved into Skip Barber Racing school at the age of 13, scoring several victories. After two seasons in Formula Lites and F4 US Championship, where he scored a number of wins and podiums but lacked consistency to fight for championships, his aspiring professional career derailed due to a lack of talent as he went on to study mechanical engineering full time at University of Michigan.

While at UM, Jackie was introduced to the sport of Time Attack, and he started competing in Gridlife and Global Time Attack with his daily driver Honda S2000. Known for his oversteer-centric driving style and loose-cannon approach, as well as an infamous accident on track in a Toyota Supra, he has garnered a small following on YouTube and cofounded PhD Racing Lab as a means to support his racing dreams.

Alex Li - Head of Mechanical Design

Alex Li has been fascinated by cars since a very young age, and his first car was a 2002 Subaru WRX which he used to deliver pizzas. His interest in Time Attack grew after attending World Time Attack Challenge in Australia, which motivated him to one day compete at the event. While studying automotive engineering at McMaster in Greater Toronto Area, Alex interned at well-known Subaru race shop NV Auto and held engineering roles at Neo Motorsport designing big brake kits, all while campaigning his WRX in Time Attack events and going through numerous parts cars and engines.

In the early 2010s Alex scored a maiden CSCS Time Attack championship, and began transitioning to campaign in Global Time Attack and Gridlife. After several years of partnership and friendship, Alex and Jackie Ding cofounded PhD Racing Lab in 2019, with Alex taking the role of full time crew chief/engineering director & manager. Alex’s contribution to PhD’s success in grassroots motorsport cannot be understated, and he continues to dream up plenty of Motorsport ideas, good or bad, to this day.
